OUR COMMITTEES
Worship & Music
As the name suggests, the Worship and Music Committee members meet to plan Abiding Hope’s Worship services according to the liturgical calendar. The committee makes decisions not only based on seasonal liturgical settings, they also discuss ideas on how to bring about worship experiences that are fresh, but remain faithful to our Lutheran heritages. New Committee members who would like to contribute are always welcome.

Hospitality
Our task is to nurture the warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere already present here at Abiding Hope, and to provide opportunities for fellowship within our congregational life. There are several events the Hospitality Committee either organizes or assists with planning: Reformation breakfast, First-Sunday fellowship hour, Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner, the annual church picnic, Wednesday evening “soup suppers”. The committee also cares for the receptions for baptisms, confirmations and the reception of new members, bereavement dinners, and other special events as the need arises within the congregation. To RSVP for these events (either to attend or volunteer your help), please watch for event sheets on the table in the Fellowship Hall. Although Hospitality is a budgeted line item in our congregation’s expense plan, free-will offerings and donations often help to defray costs.
If other congregational committees are planning functions at church, please feel free to request our help. We will try to assist and advise you as best we can.

A huge thank you to our “Friends of Hospitality” folks. You know who you are! You’re the people who cheerfully donate, prepare and serve the food. PLUS you help with set-up and clean-up. Many hands make for lighter work. We Appreciate You!
Outreach
Abiding Hope’s Outreach Committee is the focal point for our congregation’s ministries that reach beyond our building walls. These ministries are built around the obligations Christ gave to us; feed the hungry, clothe the naked and comfort the afflicted. In addition they reflect our need to be a responsible and active part of the community we live in. Currently we are committed to the following.
-
Participation in the Kearsarge Area Food Pantry which the Outreach Committee doesn’t lead but gladly recognizes as the flagship ministry of Abiding Hope.
-
Project Dignity, which provides household and personal care items to clients of the food pantry.
-
Participation in and support of, Habitat for Humanity Faith Builds. This includes hands-on donations of building skills as well as monetary support, both direct and through Thrivent matching programs.
-
We have adopted Bethany Outreach Center as a focus for inner city ministry. Bethany Outreach grew out of the consolidation of Bethany Lutheran and Luther Memorial and remains committed to one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country.
-
Christmas Presents for residents of Bethesda Children’s Home, an ELCA affiliate located in Meadville and the Trinity Center, a Bethesda satellite in Erie.
-
Participation in His Shining Lights yearly free Thanksgiving dinner, which is served at the Martin Luther King Center.
-
Coats for Kids, is a program organized by United Church Ministries and supported by Abiding Hope.
-
How Sweet the Sound is a cultural series offered free of charge to the Erie community.
